As a recovering copy editor, perhaps I'm a bit more impressed by the nuances of the kids' language development than most people. Or maybe I'm just their mother and think everything they say is unreasonably interesting. Split the difference?
JONAS
[In the car on the way home from school - I reach to turn down the stereo]
Me: Ok if I turn this down? Were you listening to it?
Jonas: I heard it mom, but I wasn't listening to it.
CORA
[In the kitchen chatting with Katherine, a co-op mom and native Brit]
Cora: [To Katherine]: Look at my turtle! (tur-dl)
Katherine: Yes, I see your turtle. (tuh-Tal)
Cora: No. Tur-DL.
Katerine: Yes, your tuh-Tal.
Cora: NOOO! TUR-DL!!!
Me: Dear God, she's correcting your pronunciation.
I'm totally blaming the baby for the fact that I got slightly weepy towards the end there. Blogs are, by their nature, very much me, me, me, and I like them that way. I like to
get to know the 'me' behind the blog - even when I know them IRL, because the blog is a different side to them. But it's also nice to find out more about the people behind the
'me'. And it can be moving, as it was here.
